As a responsible company, Coca‑Cola HBC is committed to sustainability and reducing packaging waste. Besides making our PET bottles lighter, thus using less material, we are constantly looking for innovative solutions that will enable us in reaching our sustainability goals. Bearing this in mind, we have created PlantBottle™, a recyclable PET bottle partially made of plants in 2009.
To date, more than 35 billion PlantBottle™ packages have been distributed in nearly 40 countries where a Coca‑Cola company operates. The technology has enabled us to eliminate the potential for more than 315,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions—equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted from burning more than 743,000 barrels of oil.
The technology is available in Hungry as well. Since 2015, NaturAqua natural mineral water has been produced using PlantBottle Technology™, the food packaging technology of the future. This environmentally friendly innovation meant we could become the first in the soft drinks market to manufacture completely recyclable PET bottles made partially from plants. PlantBottle™ packaging can contain up to 25 percent plant material, leaving a smaller ecological footprint.
